How to Prepare for Your Fishing Charter in Vancouver BC
First thing’s first… GET YOUR FISHING LICENSE!
Whether you’re a Returning Fisher or a Newb, every guest must purchase a Tidal Water License and Salmon Conservation Stamp prior to boarding the vessel on the day of the booking, in order to fish for and retain salmon.
What’s Included in your Charter
-
We provide the seaworthy vessel piloted by an experienced and certified captain. Captain Colin will pilot the vessel, set up all fishing gear and guide the charter into fish and great catches.
-
All safety gear is included and aboard the vessel. This includes life jackets and low profile, inflatable pdf’s vests (flotation devices). The vessel is equipped with all mandatory Transport Canada safety equiptment including, a first aid kit, flares, bailer and epirb (gps) locater.
-
Reel Catchy supplies you with all the necessary fishing gear required. All rods, reels and tackle are of high end equipment and are maintained after every charter to ensure it’s up to the task of handling large salmon or bottom fish. We also provide crab & prawn traps! Catching prawn and crab is trip and season specific.
-
We have a 55 litre cooler on board and will have 2-3 bags of ice. The purpose of this cooler and ice is primarily for your catch. There will be a some, limited, room for additional items that need to be cold. However, we ask you pack your own cooling accessories to keep food and drinks cold for the trip.
-
All caught and retained fish will be cleaned and bagged for transport to the standards and expectations of the department of fisheries. (Gutted with tails and heads left on for identification reasons)
What’s NOT Included
-
Food and drinks are not provided on the vessel so please pack your own food and drinks for your charter. We suggest packing items in small coolers or cool bags, refraining from using multiple large coolers (it’s a space thing).
There is a cooler on board with ice (for the catch) that can be used to cool items if needed, however, we suggest packing your food and drinks with freezer packs etc to keep things cool.
PS **** NO BANANAS PLEASE ****
-
It’s suggested that you come prepared for all types of weather. It’s better to have the option of shedding a layer than needing a layer and not having one. Even in the summer months, the winds can be cool and the ride to and from the fishing spot can is chilly (temperature and vibes), so bring what you need to be ready for anything.
-
Please pack sunscreen, hats and sunglasses. A long sleeve UV shirt and even pants, are good ideas to keep from catching a sun burn.
-
It happens! Even though we are on the inner coast, the wind, current and tides dictate how smooth or rough the water gets. Some days are flat and calm while others are really bumpy. The vessel does rock back and forth also up and down for the duration of the trip. Motion sickness medication like gravol will help as will motion sickness patches (equilibrium patches. Another option is pressure point wrist bands.
Reel Catchy Fishing Co. will not supply medication of any kind so please, come prepared. Motion sickness happens to us all and will ruin the day if not considered.
-
Smoking is permitted only in the outer deck and all garbage must be extinguished and disposed of properly. DO NOT THROW BUTTS IN THE OCEAN!
